Senior Hydrogeologist / Environmental Engineer

S&ME is seeking an individual to join our Environmental team in Greensboro, NC as a Senior Hydrogeologist / Environmental Engineer and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.


What You Will Do:

Are you a Hydrogeologist/Environmental Engineer passionate about making a positive impact on the environment through your expertise and enjoys working within a team? You have extensive experience with traditional environmental services such as site characterizations, hydrogeologic studies, Brownfields redevelopment, technical and compliance support for solid waste landfill facilities, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapor assessments. As a Senior Hydrogeologist / Environmental Engineer, you will coordinate and perform field oversight of drilling operations, perform field sampling, classify soils, coordinate laboratory testing, produce CADD drawings, and author proposals/reports/ deliverables.

  • Lead projects from start to finish managing client communication, proposals, field operations, and financials.
  • Execute detailed field investigations for complex projects.
  • Prepare comprehensive environmental reports, permit applications, and work plans.
  • Drive business development.
  • Mentor junior staff, maintain client relationships, and actively engage in professional industry organizations.

Who You Are:

  • You have a bachelor's degree in Geology or Civil / Environmental Engineering
  • You have 10+ years of relevant experience
  • You have a Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina
  • You have working knowledge of GPS location/surveying technology
  • You have extensive experience and knowledge of various drilling equipment and techniques
  • You have environmental logging experience
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail; and ability to meet deadlines
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word, and able to learn commercial software applications

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
