Primary Purpose of Position | The Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development in Forsyth County is one of two 4-H Agents who partner together to present programming for youth and adults involved with the overall 4-H youth development program. This Agent is responsible for planning, executing and evaluating effective and comprehensive 4-H educational programs that meet the needs of the county's limited resource youth from ages 5-19, in accordance with the mission and priorities established by National 4-H Council in alignment with the mission and vision of N.C. Cooperative Extension and N.C. A&T Cooperative Extension. Programs focus on developing leadership, citizenship and workforce skills in youth, including an extensive Science and STEM element, through a variety of established instructional delivery modes. The Extension Agent will: (1) determine program needs and priorities by conducting needs assessments (2) collaborate and partner including county and community based organizations to deliver programs and recruit program participants (3) organize, communicate, and deliver course materials in formal and informal instructional settings, such as organized 4-H clubs, special interest youth programs, 4-H projects, after-school programs, summer day camp programs, and school enrichment (4) evaluate data collected from multiple sources including needs assessments, advisory/specialized committee members, county residents and program participants, in an effort to determine program impacts. This position primarily focuses on delivering programs addressing the specific needs of urban limited-resource and socially-disadvantaged youth, based on changing social, economic, and demographic factors. The 4-H Agent's high priority needs and issues are confronting residents of low income and minority communities, including but not limited to, public housing concentrating on youth experiencing problems and families in adverse situations. |

Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The Cooperative Extension Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas - Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners - North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, The Cooperative Extension Program has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. |
Minimum Requirements | Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in the major field of study (based on a 4.0 scale), or completion of a Master's degree.
